Letter to Parents on COVID-19 & the LWS 2020-2021 School Year

Henry Homeschooling

Dear Students, Parents, Grandparents, Guardians, and Community Members

Due to potential risk of exposure to the COVID-19 Virus, the Oglala Sioux Tribe Council put a Shelter-In-Place Ordinance in effect that limits reservation wide travel and expects all residents to self-isolate in their places of residence. In this ordinance, the Tribal Council orders that all educational institutions shall conduct distance learning for at least the first quarter of the 2020-2021 academic year. It also states that schools are essential businesses, for which only limited travel is allowed. Students are not permitted on the school premises for classes or extracurricular activities; therefore, all lessons will be taught through virtual classes and/or paper packet delivery.

All our teachers are all willing to receive phone calls and online meetings to assist their students and/or parents to ensure each child will continue to flourish throughout their educational experience at the LWS.

We are deeply saddened by these circumstances and their effect on our community and students. All our faculty wishes for nothing more than to see our students return back to regular school, interact with their friends, and enlighten our classrooms with their livelihood.
