The Lakota Waldorf School asks for your financial support!
During the last two years, most of our time and resources were invested in fundraising for our campus construction project. We had to use almost all our reserves and all unrestricted dollars for the new building.
It turned out beautifully and has become the best learning environment for our students. The sound of laughter, Lakota songs, and little feet scurrying through our new hallways is bringing spirit into what would otherwise be an empty space. The smell of freshly baked bread and simmering berry stew streams from our new kitchen through the classrooms, making everyone feel at home.
This happiness is possible only because of your help. Our donors made our dream of a new campus building come true, and now we must ask for your continued financial support as we turn our attention to the new academic year. As the only Native American, tuition-free Waldorf school, we rely on the generosity of our supporters to keep our doors open.
We need all the help we can get to keep our programs funded throughout this school year and into the future.
Celebrating Thirty Years of the Lakota Waldorf School
On August 10th, we celebrated the grand opening of our new campus building. Approximately 100 people from the community attended. There was great food, an open mic in our outdoor amphitheater, and bingo with prizes. The event was a magical start to the new school year. Our students love the new building and are breathing life into it as we speak.
This year, we also celebrate thirty years of Lakota Waldorf School. The dream of a tuition-free Waldorf school on the Pine Ridge Reservation, once considered impossible by many, has become a reality and endured for thirty years.
Our school is only made possible through the support of so many people and foundations who care for the children of the Pine Ridge Reservation and believe that Waldorf pedagogy aligns with the traditional Lakota ways.
On August 21st, we welcomed our students into the new building for the start of the 2023-24 school year. It was a joy to see them check out the new school and see how happy and comfortable they feel in this space.
The kitchen still needs a little more work, but our students now have a larger cafeteria, and the sun hall is ready for Eurythmy classes and parent evenings.
We are so excited to begin the school year in our new space!
